“Bouquet Divino”, the work of Gennaro Regina for Vitignoitalia
May 16, 2017
A work of art, “Bouquet Divino”, superimposed on an 18th century map of the Province of Naples, designed by Antonio Rizzi Zannoni, becomes the official image of Vitignoitalia 2017 and a live performance that promises to be yet another advertisement for Naples in the world.
Gennaro Regina, Pop Art artist, will create, on Thursday 18 May, at 6 pm, a new instant work in the Piazzale delle Arma of Castel dell'Ovo. Taking advantage of the brightness of the evening, the artist will continue in the spirit of his performance last autumn on Vesuvius. This time he will work on a geographical map of the province of Naples, drawn in the 18th century by Antonio Rizzi Zannoni and will create a pictorial work that should be inspired once again by the icon of the volcano of Naples but also by the legend of Virgil's Egg, historical symbol of the Neapolitan castle. The creation of the instant work will be followed in real time by a video crew that also includes the use of underwater cameras (there is talk of a hunt for the Mermaid) and drones, to create a video art work, directed by Gennaro Regina himself, with the executive production of DJ Roberto Funaro and music composed for the occasion by Salvio Vassallo. The work will be presented to the public in preview on May 21st (at 3 pm), the day of the inauguration of the exhibition “In Vino Veritas”.
In the 3 rooms of Castel dell'Ovo for 3 days, from May 21st to 23rd, Gennaro Regina will be the focus of a solo exhibition, entitled “In Vino Veritas” (like the instant painting and the video art clip, made on May 18th). The use of Latin and the allusion to the divine chalices are inevitable, given the location and the event hosting the exhibition. But it is “veritas” that dictates the choice of the 24 works on display that tell historical and recent periods of the artist's activity. His Vesuvius represent an indisputable truth. They are a symbol, or rather a true icon reinterpreted in a pop art key but also awareness of something that is both great beauty and immanent threat. Even brutal truth, certainly sensual, never afraid of being pornographic, they are the most erotic works. An even more brutal and certainly even more pornographic truth can be found in the works of political denunciation, which see Regina wondering what happened to the dreams and utopias pursued by so many generations. Together with her Vesuvius there will be “Bouquet Divino” and there will be 6 works in plexiglass measuring 1mtx1mt, in which pop erotic fruit appears.
